What’s new in Midjourney v8.2?

The most important point is that v8.2 does not introduce new prompting guidelines compared with v8.1. The same prompting guidance applies to both.

What does change is primarily the model’s aesthetic behavior:

• Different aesthetic flavor. V8.2 may interpret the same prompt with a noticeably different visual taste than v8.1. Whether that “looks better” is subjective.
• Profiles may behave differently. We recommend making a new global profile specifically for v8.2 rather than assuming an existing one will transfer identically.
• Retest moodboards and --sref. We recommend side-by-side experimentation because existing moodboards and --srefs may interact differently with v8.2.
• Otherwise, V8.1 guidance carries forward. Both v8.1/v8.2 are faster and cheaper than v8.0, with a stronger aesthetic bias and a small adherence tradeoff versus v8.0.

So, in practical promptcraft terms: don’t rewrite your v8.1 prompts just because you moved to v8.2. Run the same prompt in both versions and pay attention to what changes aesthetically, especially when profiles, moodboards, or style references are involved.
