Overview (TL;DR)

To get all of your subject (character, person, animal) within the image frame (head-to-toe), follow this checklist:

• Start your prompt with the artistic medium/style.
• Introduce your subject as a full-length (do not say: Full Body, Shot, Portrait)
• Describe the top (head, hair, hat) + the bottom (feet, paws, shoes), including what the subject is standing on. As InfoGuru says, the foot-wear and the foot-where!
• Use as Aspect Ratio that is tall enough to include the whole subject.

How do I get my whole character in the image, from head to toe?

To get an image that includes all of the person or character from head to toe, and NOT a head-and-shoulders portrait, do all of the things in this checklist:

Full-Length checklist

1. Start your prompt with the artistic medium/style (painting, photograph, illustration, etc):

   ✅  Illustration of …

   ✅  Photograph of …

2. Introduce your subject as a full-length (person, character, animal):

   ✅  … a full-length female elf …

   ❌  do not say Full Body - the moderation filter can be sensitive to this word/phrasing

   ❌  do not say Shot - has more than one meaning, and although it’s used for photos it’s best to be clear about the style you actually want.

   ❌  do not say Portrait - usually cropped at waist or shoulders.

3. Anchor parts of the person/character that tend to fall out of frame, which works because Midjourney strives to obey us. If you describe it, Midjourney will try to depict it:

   • Mention the feet/footwear (paws and tail if it’s an animal). If you mention running shoes or bare feet or big orange paws, Midjourney is obligated to show them if it wants to obey your prompt.
   • Mention the hair/hat (or ears if an animal).

4. Describe the scene: the background and context that help Midjourney create the full environment the person or character is in, including elements above and below the character.

   • Mention the ground/floor like stands on wooden floorboards or stands in the mud. You can also this with by describing poses in a setting, like patrolling the forest, or walking down the sidewalk, or jogging through the park, etc.
   • Mention something above them like blue sky above or pine branches above

5. Use an Aspect Ratio that is tall enough to fit the standing person/character (parameter --ar).

Still having trouble?

• Keep parameters at their default settings until your prompt is working and consistently giving you full-length views (stylize, chaos, weird, exp).
• Consider taking advantage of the "slope of influence" a.k.a. word sequence. Words at the front of the prompt are more influential than words at the end of the prompt. So starting with full-length and describing the person/character’s extremities at the front of the prompt may be beneficial.
