Overview (TL;DR)

The /describe command uses an AI LLM to identify the subject and style of your uploaded image, and suggests possible prompts. Although it offers whole prompts, this AI does not “speak Midjourney” … so it’s most useful for prompt ideation rather than guaranteed replication of the source image.

What is /describe?

</aside>

The "describe" function tries to identify what's in an image (subjects) and how it looks (style). It's an ideation tool. An ideation tool is something you use to help generate ideas. Think of the describe function like a brainstorming technique. An ideation tool like describe can help you think about prompts.

⚠️ Prompts created by the describe feature are not necessarily reliable, may not produce the expected results, and may not pass moderation. It's a tool to give you ideas, not guaranteed solutions.

Are the prompts made by the describe function on Discord... GOOD prompts?

Well, this is an ideation tool. You can explore the words and phrases provided by /describe and make your own call. We do caution that the vocabulary used by the command is NOT from a "Midjourney Dictionary of Excellent Tokens" (there's no such thing). It is an AI tool providing ideas, so it may occasionally contain suggestions that are unhelpful. Like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, /describe won't always be accurate/true/right.
